Landlord fined £55k - Don't let this be YOU!

A landlord has been handed a hefty fine of £55,000 after committing multiple health and safety breaches at his Slough home.

Fahed Choudry from Homefield, Wembley, was fined £5,000 per offence, ordered to pay court costs of £2,387.92, as well as a victim supplement of £190, the Slough Observer reports.

In one example, there was a hole in the wall behind a door and a dent in the wall, raising questions about the building's structural integrity.

Urgent Call For More Rental Homes

The government anticipates that there will be 1.8 million new households over the next decade, and has targeted building 340,000 new homes per year by 2025 to meet those numbers.

Given the current annual growth rate of social and owner-occupied housing, however, the private rented sector (PRS) would need to plug this gap with 227,000 properties a year, reports Capital Economics, a consultancy commissioned by the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA).
