A little support can make a big difference when it comes to maintaining a safe, comfortable and healthy home.
For some people, parting with possessions can be incredibly difficult. Hoarding is often misunderstood, but it can have a significant impact on a person’s wellbeing, living conditions and ability to manage their home.
The good news is that help is available right here in Milton Keynes.
Milton Keynes City Council’s Tenancy Sustainment Team offers support to residents experiencing difficulties with hoarding, helping them take positive steps towards creating a safer and more manageable living environment.
A Friendly, Supportive Place to Start
The Council runs a monthly Hoarding Support Group, providing a welcoming, understanding and non-judgemental environment where individuals can talk openly, share experiences and receive practical advice.
Whether someone is just beginning to recognise that they need help or has been struggling for some time, the group offers encouragement and guidance at their own pace.
Support available includes:
Peer support: Connect with others who understand the challenges of hoarding.
Practical advice: Discover manageable ways to organise possessions and improve living spaces.
Access to local services: Find out about additional support available throughout Milton Keynes.
Tenancy sustainment: Receive guidance on maintaining a safe and healthy home and reducing potential risks.
When and Where?
The Hoarding Support Group meets regularly, making it easier for residents to access ongoing help.
When: First Thursday of every month
Time: 1pm – 3.30pm
Location: Milton Keynes Recovery College Community Inclusion Service
Why Early Support Matters
Hoarding can create challenges beyond clutter, including increased fire risks, difficulties accessing essential areas of the home and potential health and safety concerns.
For tenants, these issues can sometimes lead to problems maintaining their tenancy.
However, with the right understanding, patience and practical assistance, positive changes are possible.
At Affinity Lettings & Property Management, we understand that maintaining a tenancy isn’t always straightforward. We believe that approaching sensitive situations with compassion, rather than judgement, is essential to achieving the best outcomes for residents, landlords and the wider community.
Seeking support is a positive first step, and nobody should feel embarrassed about asking for help.
