Community Love - Let’s Bring it Back this Valentine’s Day

Have We Forgotten How to Care for Our Neighbours?
The Covid-19 pandemic brought out the best in many communities.
Neighbours who had never spoken before checked in on one another, collected shopping for the vulnerable, and formed WhatsApp groups to stay connected. Streets and estates became more than just places where people lived – they became communities again.
But as life returned to normal, so did old habits. Working in property management—overseeing blocks of flats, estates, and rental properties—we see daily reminders that the sense of community has faded once more.
Loud music at all hours, rubbish dumped in communal areas, and cars parked selfishly with no regard for others. Packages stolen from doorsteps, lifts vandalised and walls graffitied. The kindness and consideration we saw during lockdown have, for many, been replaced by a “not my problem” mentality.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
This Valentine’s Day, let’s bring back the spirit of neighbourhood watch—not just in the formal sense but in the way we look out for one another. Let’s love our neighbours again, not just with words but with actions. A simple smile, lowering the volume, disposing of rubbish properly, or checking in on an elderly resident can make all the difference.
Community isn’t built by councils, landlords, or management companies—it’s built by us. So this 14th of February, let’s remember: love thy neighbour.
