LANDLORD ORGANISATIONS ANNOUNCE PLANS TO MERGE

Two major landlord organisations are planning to join together in a move they believe will give the private rented sector a stronger voice on a regional and a national level.
The boards of the National Landlords Association (NLA) and the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) have endorsed the move which will not be put to a vote of members in September
They will unite to form the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA) which will launch officially on 01 January 2020. In the meantime, both the RLA and NLA will continue to operate independently although there will be an increasing level of co-ordination.
With a membership of more than 80,000 landlords making it the largest organisation in the sector. Its members will own and manage half a million properties, about 10% of the private rented sector.
'After more than 20 years of friendly competition the time is right to create a single organisation to represent and campaign for landlords. With so much of our work done in parallel there are major benefits to be gained for our landlord members,' said Alan Ward, chair of the RLA and Adrian Jeakings, chair of the NLA in a joint statement.
'We will be stronger together when presenting a unified voice to government both nationally and locally about the importance of supporting the majority of landlords who do a good job providing the homes to rent the country needs,' they added.
The agreement to form the new organisation will be put to members of both associations on 17 September. The new NRLA will serve landlords in England Wales and will have a regional structure.
The Residential Landlords Association was established in 1998 and now represents 39,000 landlords providing advice, training and support as well as campaigning on behalf of landlords.
The origins of the National Landlords Association date back to 1973, and it now represents 41,500 members providing advice, training and support as well as campaigning on behalf of landlords.
